How to be a Journeyperson MST at age 20

Austin Edwards.JPG

Austin Edwards told students and parents at the Saanich School’s “Parents as Informed Partners” night how he completed his 4-year Marine Service Technician Ticket before his 21st birthday. By starting his trades training at Quadrant while he was in Grade 11 at Parkland Secondary, he got credit towards high school and MST technical training at the same time. Quadrant is just one of the training partners with Saanich Schools where Dual Credit students like Austin can fast track their career goals.

Austin completed his advanced competencies and final exam this past spring. He works at Raven Marine in Sidney and specializes in mechanical systems installations.

Congratulations Austin!

Every year the Maritime Museum of BC presents the SS Beaver medals for outstanding contributions to BC's marine industry. One of this year's awards goes to Campbell Black for his work as one of the founders and leaders of Quadrant Marine Institute's apprenticeship training program for Marine Service Technicians.

The award medals are cast from actual parts of the wreckage of the SS Beaver, the first steam-powered vessel on this coast, wrecked off Vancouver in 1888.

Other 2017 recipients included Mr. Barrie Farrell, Capt. Keith McLaren, Mr. Roland Webb, and S.A.L.T.S (Sail and Life Training Society). Congratulations!
