A fast week with Women In Trades Training Maritime Sampler Classes at Quadrant

We have a new partnership project with Camosun College for their Maritime Trade Sampler Courses. As part of their larger exploration of maritime trades, students spend a week with Quadrant to experience the small craft/recreational side of the industry. This week was dedicated to Women In Trades and we had 13 enthusiastic participants.

Day 1: Abrasives, Adhesives, and Basic Coatings - Sikaflex is an art!

Day 2: Laminating and repairing laminate damage - composites = chemistry.

Day 3: Wiring series & parallel DC electrical circuits (& troubleshooting with multimeters).

Day 4: Onboard systems cover a lot of service work, from outboard motors to large yachts.

Thanks to all our dedicated instructors from Philbrook’s Boatyard, Pilot Marine Yacht Services, Blackline Marine, and Nordik Marine Surveyors.

Level 1 MST Respirators & Fit Testing: Thanks 3M

Respirator fit test.jpg

Bridgette and Jan are just two of the dozens of apprentices (& one dedicated administrator!) who passed their respirator education and fit testing before heading off to do marine service training projects.

Special thanks to Peter Asfour & Doug Clements from 3M for their assistance.

How to be a Journeyperson MST at age 20

Austin Edwards.JPG

Austin Edwards told students and parents at the Saanich School’s “Parents as Informed Partners” night how he completed his 4-year Marine Service Technician Ticket before his 21st birthday. By starting his trades training at Quadrant while he was in Grade 11 at Parkland Secondary, he got credit towards high school and MST technical training at the same time. Quadrant is just one of the training partners with Saanich Schools where Dual Credit students like Austin can fast track their career goals.

Austin completed his advanced competencies and final exam this past spring. He works at Raven Marine in Sidney and specializes in mechanical systems installations.

Congratulations Austin!

Quadrant's New Granville Island Classroom hosts Fire Extinguisher Training Certification

Have you ever put out a live fire? Do you know when you should try a fire extinguisher and when you just need to get out? What should you be looking out for when you’re working in marinas and boatyards?

Level One MST Training starts off with fire extinguisher training certification that includes putting out a live fire.

AND, we have a new office and classroom on Granville Island at 1806 Maritime Mews.

A big shout out to SKOOKUM YACHT SERVICES and PILOT MARINE YACHT SERVICES for making the much needed renovation project happen in time for classes!
